Book 75 Completed

December 1, 2010

I’m surprised I haven’t read this little novella before. Chronicle of a Death Foretold is a great read; powerful, interesting — told in a breezy journalistic style (a friend is on the hunt for details surrounding the killing of his friend; he interviews all the players of the murder and those in the town that day), the book is simple in a deceptive way; I can imagine teaching this book and forcing my students to keep digging. I know this book is taught a fair bit at the secondary level in AP or IB classes — I can see why. It’s accessible, but profound…a good combination for students learning how to read for meaning and style.

Chronicle of a Death Foretold is subtle, ironic, intense, and sad. While the “truth” seems to hover out there, I didn’t feel like I needed concrete answers to understand or appreciate the tale.

It was a good choice for me! And that’s all I’m gonna write about it. 🙂 I may be chipping away at the ever-expanding to-do list, but it feels overwhelming tonight…so, we’ll shortchange the blog and I might be able to get a few things accomplished. Pulling out the advent Calendar is priority #1 — it is the first, after all — I’ve got a December to plan!
