For all the Hunger Games fans…

May 10, 2010

Sorry I was MIA this weekend. I’ll admit, I’m only 7 pages into Things Fall Apart. Wow. So, it was like a double-challenge-fail: No new blog, not reading. As predicted, “The SIMS3” took up some much needed reading time. And now I’m back at that reading conference for round 2 — I know for sure I was in Italy (obviously, not the REAL Italy — the “challenge” Italy…but I felt I should clarify) for reading conference round 1.

Anyway, my mom got ME a present for Mother’s Day. (I know — backward, isn’t it?) She pre-ordered me a copy of Mockingjay (the third Hunger Games book) and what did that pre-order come with? A mockinjay pin! I know that owning a mockingjay pin makes me a whole separate type of nerd — but I don’t care, I love it. (For non-Hunger Games readers, the main character was given this pin in the first book and she wears it throughout the novels.)

Now, owning this pin doesn’t quite bring me up to the level of the Harry Potter fans who dressed up like witches and wizards and attended midnight book parties. It’s not that I would sit around and mock people who do have that level of commitment to a book they love, but I don’t think there is anything I’m a fan of with that much intensity. Well, I did host a LOST premiere party and covered all the food in Dharma labels. But there were no costumes involved.

Anyway…

So, that’s the best book news I have currently. I have one more day at the conference and then I’ll get back into the swing of reading. Promise.

And now you have to look at a lovely picture of my beautiful son on Mother’s Day.

DUDE, I pre-ordered “Mockingjay” and didn’t get squat. I have co-workers that will be at BEA next week and I’m begging them to score me an ARC (Advanced Readers Copy), only to find out that Scholastic isn’t printing any! Argh…

Also, for some reason, I feel inclined to tell you that I have a Ravenclaw tie that I have worn to book release parties and movie premieres, and I’ve got LOST action figures…. Jack, Kate, Sawyer and Charlie. There’s a very good reason we are friends. 🙂
